Seen it...was going up to Big Bear,Ca once....seen clothes scattered along the side of the road....then came up on a new Camaro...fully engulfed in flames...and this couple standing there...taking pics of their car...burning...stuff happens
However, the "F-bombs" and "Holy-s**ts" by the videographer are really uncalled for IMHO.

What a sad sight for the Corvette to go up in smoke like that. Did you see how fast the driver got out. Ya, I want to run some NO2 NO THANK YOU. I can't see a normally aspirated engine blow like that without being on the bottle.
I've never seen a safety crew take so long to start putting out the fire at the starting line. That would have chapped my hyde. The driver does react quickly (as any good drag racer should).
This is the first time I actually saw the video (in the other dozen threads the link was edited out) but I have read much of the discussion. Of course many of the vette people are offended at the commentary, but the guy is just an excited jerk... what do you expect? And as for the long time taken by the fire personnel... I believe someone claimed that they are instructed to stay away from burning cars on spray due to risk of explosion.

I wonder how far he ran before he finally turned around. What a chickenshi^. That was funny as hell.
How can you expect a safety crew to approach your car when you are too scared to do it yourself?

it did seem to take a while before the fire extinguishers got there though ..... and the first one there wound up getting a face full of chemical from the second guy there ..... seemed not quite up to fire prevention standards ..... but what do I know

This would not have happened if the guy was running with the proper safety equiptment. He was not running a window switch. He launched the car at too low of an rpm with the nitrous spraying, tires grabbed too quickly and the engine bogged. Nitrous and gas continued to poor into the intake, and ignited from the engine bogging. If he was running a window switch, the nitrous would have disabled once the rpms dropped below 3k or so. It would have prevented that massive nitrous explosion.

Old video, but thats exactly what i thought, insurance did pay for that
loss. He even told them the truth
What are y'all crying about? It's only a C5. There's quite a few still around...still making 'em, too.
Now if it was a nice tri-power or fuelie (or my stock '74 vert...), I might shed some tears.
It is not just a c5, it is a z06. And no they are not still making them. There is no reason to make jokes about a 35k dollar car catching on fire, whether it be a corvette or a civic. That is some mans pride and joy that is ruined. I dont understand why we feel the need to pick apart of bad mouth other generations of corvette just because they are not a c3.

Yes, they are still making them. They call 'em C6's now...
And...while under the umbrella of this (C3) forum, I have freedom to crack on any other vehicle I wish...

Sure, go find me an 05 z06 with a 104.5 wheelbase, 5.7L engine, pop up headlights in the fixed roof coupe style. I have 50k in hand waiting...
Thats right, they dont make them anymore....
