Wasn't there a test done by the NHTSA where they chained down 3 corners of a C3 and started jacking it up. I heard it only got a 1 star rating because someone lost an eye when the glass T-Top shattered under stress. It was understandable though they had that corner 63 inches in the air when it blew.

that is over 5 foot. The frame would have to have bent big time to get that kind of height, not to mention the torn up body. What would a test like that accomplish?

I relieved the pressure on my tops by removing the motor and transmission. I shouldn't have to worry about those load bearing tops cracking now.

So if you only put in 1 top and ride around - will that affect your alignment ???

This topic made me laugh..... If it was true don't you think Ralph Nader would have been ranting and raving about "unsafe at any speed!"

Maybe we should petiton for another topic section labeled "Urban Myths".

Poor Richard, I doubt he will ever ask another question in this forum again.

I better go check for cracks, I have not had my tops on for about 10 years. Many miles and up on jack and jack stands plenty.
