Default 76 carpet installation question

I bought a carpet kit from Al Knoch. I'm installing the rear compartment side carpets first. What I think I'm finding is that I need to trim the carpet to fit. The side carpets seem to be too long and wide. Any with advise and direction?

Thanks for the words of advise. Needed the confidence builder. I too cut very little off...when first evaluating installation it appeared that more would need to be trimmed.

Yep, you need to trim the carpet. Go ahead and cut away. Ditto on the "measure twice cut once" advice. In a pinch, you can sew together scraps if you F#$% up.

Trim after install....not before. Just like carpet layers do when they carpet your home. You'll never trim too short that way. Lay it in, smooth out and tuck tight corners as you go...glue in stratigic spots (humps, valleys, stress areas) then trim allowing for small overlaps (rear humps to bottom, storage doors, etc) where necessary. I've carpeted three cars and never trimmed too short that way.
