I just won a set of side mount 2 1/8 hooker headers 2222hkr off e bay for 255 $ what a good deal anyways anyone have them installed and are they any good ? thanks muchly.
I just read an old thread something about having to cut the rocker panels to make the side pipes fit properly i hope not and does anyone know if you half to get different engine mounts for side mount headers?
Here's an old Corvette Fever article. http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/4680/
Not sure if the fit is any better or worse for a BB but cutting the rocker moldings is probably going to be necessary.
OK, you need to take the rocker moldings off anyway to mount the side pipes. The mounting tabs are on the 4" pipes that slip over the headers.
In order:
1) Get car up on jack stands. I had mine about 18" up. Higher is better.
2) Remove old exhaust and clutch linkage and rocker moldings.
3) Feed headers in from bottom.
4) Make a pattern in cardboard around the pipes for trimming the rocker molding.
5) Trim molding and reinstall.
6) I found it to be a lot easier to have the wheels removed so I could feed the molding in from the end lengthwise. It fits in behind the pipes and the fender flare would not let it drop right in.
7) Enjoy.
Here are the instructions that came with my Hooker sidepipes for trimming. Test fit first, there are several forum members that did not need to trim anything. Rod
Thanks guys i think im going to try making some rocker panels i dont want to cut my originals they are in mint condition ill see what my mind can twist and bend up (if i even half too) maybe ill get lucky and not half to cut anything. yeh right! thanks again
You may need to cut them.
You may not need to cut either of them.
You may need to cut one and not the other.
Depends on the car.
Install the pipes first and then check out the rocker panels. But DO NOT start cutting stuff before you check to see whether you will have to.
Trust me on this.
