Default driving without power steering pump.

my car is a power steering car. currently, the pump, brackets and hoses are not installed. the connection ports on the valves are blocked off.

what, if anything, am i damaging by driving the car without the pump?

I have not driven more than 10 miles in this conditon and plan on getting a pump soon.

Thank you

I believe the pump is there just to add assistance. I know many of cars that have gone years without there's. You will only work your arms more.

ok, i have another question. i have seen posts that talk about converting from power steering to manual.

does removing the pump give the same effect, the conversion is just cleaner? perhaps the manual steering box is geared different?

I once lost a high pressure hose and cut the belt trying to save the pump...had to drive 400 miles, but it was very difficult steering in/out of some tight gas stations...it can be done...

I've wondered about this whenever I've had a PS breakdown or engine shut-down while driving. It would seem that if the steering coupler is not in the best shape that the added torque(is this the right word?) might stress it further. Again, I'm not sure, but I have thought about it.
