Default It's been a long time comin' - engine's in!!

Well, it was a long time coming - for me at least. I had yanked my engine last April, but last night it was back in. Here are a few shots. I was anxious to see how it would fit in the engine bay.

All ready to go. It's about 7pm and just enough time to get this baby in. It should take about 2 hours I reckon...

I went with Sanderson headers since they had what I wanted. 1-7/8 tubes with a 3 inch collector and 3/8 flange, ceramic coated - no gasket required. This is really quality stuff. I will add my O2 sensor somewhere between the collector and the sidepipes.

Up, up, and away...
Just cleared the radiator frame by fractions of an inch... The towels on the fender will protect the paint in case the chains snap. The thick layer of dust also serves as a protective coating.

How many of you would have the guts to tilt such a huge investment at this crazy angle!! Now you know why those carb plates just don't cut it!

Easy now...Don't worry - about this time I removed the headers and power steering pump. I just had them on for photographic purposes.

Did it!!! The last inch took about 45 minutes for some reason! It is now about 12 midnight - blew my schedule by about 3 hours. Time to call it quits. Poor quality photos, but at the time I just didn't care. Thanks to Jughead for his tip on keeping the engine mounts loose until it was in. Radiator is due in this week - more photos then...

I took me a few minutes to figure out why you needed such a sharp entry angle and I didn't. I removed the radiator core support.

That's gonna be a real screamer. What hood are you using?

That is going to be sweet. I can't wait to read the thread that gives the driving impressions. Then you can put the 5 speed shifter pattern to good use. Thanks for sharing the pics.

It's a 3300AX (3.3L) Whipple SC with fuel injection. I had a thread in the engine section, but it's been lost.

Here's a link to my website that might show more details. (I know - it needs to be updated)...

I suppose none of you noticed my STOCK numbers matching dipstick! With this still installed, I will be able to enter NCRS "survivor" events.

Yeah - the old one came out easier because the engine-transmission combination is about 3 inches shorter, and that made all the difference in the world. I would have taken out the core support, but I already had the engine about 5 feet in the air! I also had to twist it because the crank on the tilting mechanism was hitting the support beam and I couldn't crank it while the engine was in a straight line.

I'd like to go with a hood like yours. Is that an L88? Any chance you could take a few measurements? I'd like to know at what point (say, from the front point on the hood) the hump rises, high high (compared to the surrounding hood area), and how wide is the raised area. Is the back open to the air?
