Hi , Everyone . This is my first time at this site . Found it last night by accident . Looks great . I was wondering if maybe you could help me . I bought a 1973 stingray in february , went down to florida to get it . Got the title while we were there from dmv in our name and all seemed fine , when we registered it in new york , insurance said error with vin . We have searched the car and can not find where the vin is ! Any ideas or help would be great . Also , they had put the side pipes on and we are trying to get it back under the car , as i got third degree burns from the pipes ! Need to find manifolds with air , preferably ceramic or chrome . Thanks for any and all help . Also , how do i put up photos of the car ? I know , a new person with to many questions !! sorry .

As said above the vin # is on the driver's side windshield post and visible from the outside. You will see a cut-out like indention in the trim when looking from outside, it may be rusty brown and hard to see numbers.

Be sure to keep the side pipes and any covers as they are worth some money (even used) depending on condition, and brand(side pipes were not an option for '73s some on the forum may want to buy them. The national vette parts companies sell all kinds of exhaust systems, check the ones listed at the left . Until, step wide.
Also , how do i put up photos of the car ?
The photos have to hosted and the you can post the link, see the help section of this forum.

It's not all that uncommon for the VIN to end up wrong on the title because someone misread it (3 & 5, in particular, look a lot like 8 through a dingy windsheild when there's no contrast between the numbers and the background). Unfortunately, from what I've heard, most DMVs make it a major PITA to get the thing changed to reflect the correct VIN.
If the sidepipes are of the Hooker variety & you like how they look, you might check into the side pipe covers offered by the Spiral Turbo Baffle guys. There was also a forum member who made his own and posted the plans & they were very good looking (try the search function) and reportedly stayed cool to the touch.

WOW... caused me to relive a painful experience in life :-)
I bought a 67 Black 4sp/ac Convertible in FL in 1973 and drove it all the way back home to IL. The Corvette body shop expert in the dealership I worked for wanted to argue with me that black wasn't a stock color for 67s, so I said look at the VIN tag. He read the code for maroon off the VIN tag, and I KNEW that car had never had a color change. I said while yur down there, read me the VIN. WOW... VIN said it was a 66... and I KNEW that car was a 67... and obviously the VIN didn't match the title I had which said it was a 67.
Long story short... called the FBI and they came and inspected it. There was a hidden VIN stamped on top of the frame BACKWARDS. He put his mirror between the frame and body and the VIN matched my title. WHEW !!! I contacted the guy I bought the car from and the car had been stolen and recovered and resold. Apparently it had been sold several times as a 66 with a 66 title and bogus VIN tag... and I bet that car is still rolling around with the bogus VIN tag on it... LOL
And I hope this story has nothing to do with your situation

Cool... I would love to put Hooker header sidepipes on my car, but don't like chrome, flat black is too boring, and I don't like to burn my legs. I wish someone would make some carbon fiber covers for them. I hadn't heard about the Spiral Turbo Baffle covers... I'll definitely have to check them out!
Hi Again . Thanks for all the replies to my post . The vin tag is missing from the windshield area .Will check the other places later , as it is 92 degrees here today . Staying in the air condition ! I tried to put on photos but was unable to . I have them hosted at photobucket .com , but can not seem to get them here ! The car has been totally redone , so who knows where i will find a vin !! I just ordered four thousand dollars worth of parts and accessories then got the notice from the insurance about the vin # . A little worried , but nobody is taking my car !!! Thanks again for the help . great site , been looking at it most of the day . to hot for anything else ! pamela
The VIN is stamped into the top of the frame on the drivers side just before the fourth body mount. This location is about 12" behind the rear tire. It is visible if the frame is clean. I could not read mine until I removed the tire and wiped the frame down. If the engine or transmission is original the sequence number of the VIN will be stamped into them. This number will be 13S4-----. The - are for numbers that comprise the sequence number. The sequence number is also the last five numbers of the VIN. The basic VIN number for a 1973 coupe is 1Z37-3S4 followed by the sequence number. The - is for the engine code: Z for big block, J for L-48 & T for L-82.

Well, maybe not. I just searched their web page and can't find the covers, so I'm guessing they don't offer them anymore, or I had some sort of brain-fart and it was someone else who offered them (I really don't think so--I'm pretty sure it was them). I also did a forum search and can't find the thread about the guy who fabbed his own, though that's definitely here somewhere & not all that long ago. Dammit.
