If your wife is the one in your Avatar, tell her whatever it takes to keep her around.

My wife and I are equally involved with the finances, so she would find out eventually anyway. So far so good at only a couple of hundred bucks - including appraisal fee and the price of parts that folks have bought for me for birthdays etc. Just a running tab on a spreadsheet. I was impressed by the spreadsheet that the previous owner made and just continued on with it.

Never let the truth ruin a good story.....
Tell her what things cost. Just don't tell here what ALL of the things cost in TOTAL. That TOTAL COST will probably scare you more then her.
So you tell her the truth, just not all at once...

Hmm... I think I'm in trouble. I don't own a corvette yet and my wife is already asking how much I'm going to spend on the car.

Interesting in my Vette there is very little room for a new Kitchen after I installed the new deck.
BTW let us know how the new engine mods work out.

I tell her how much when I spend it. I absolutely do not keep a running total. But, it doesn't really matter since she has more than twice as much tied up in a pile of cobrajet mach1.
