Default Met the folks of Thai Classic car Club

I just returned from a Sunday morning coffee drive with the folks of the Thai Classic car club. Nice bunch of guys and most speak English.
There was on 65 Vert. in pretty good shape. They just started the club two years ago and now have 400 members that look like mostly Mercedes. I don’t know much about Mercedes but there was a little 65 roadster that the owner inherited from his father. As this was the first time I attended with my Corvette they really made me feel welcome. They meet every first Sunday of the Month so next time I will bring a camera.

No thats for what they call 95octane, they also have 91octane. As there is no inforcement the octane can be anything. In the ****ry side it is really low octane. My Harley I have to add boster when riding in the country side, but Bangkok is not so bad.

Very cool. Nothing but nice people there. I was in the Nav and visited Pataya 3 times. From what I saw, you would have to spend a lot of dough to have/maintain a vette "over there". As far as being unique and cool, I don't think you'd find too many other cars that could compare to yours over there. I'm sure you get as many stares there as a Lambo would here. I'm not just saying that because you have a vette, but because you have a nice vette in my opinion.

I think the Thai government tries to minimize the price of gas because of the low per capita income in Thailand. Also, in Thailand, if $2.20 is the price of a gallon, then you can expect that a gas station employee will pump the gas, someone else will clean your windshield, and you'll get a bottle of drinking water. (my expereince.)

Yes the Thai government does not tax fuel to help the people cope. Yes they do pump the gas wash the windshield give you two free bottles of water, but you did not mention the free massage .

Default Great to see all our greats are appreciated widely...

Never been there, but have always heard Thailand is a beautiful country, especially outside of some of the boorish attitudes of some Americans. I've always liked the Thai's I've met here. Dad was only there a few times during his "extended trips" to Viet Nam and the Phillipines, but always liked it, and he was a harsh critic of EVERYWHERE!

How has the economy and such picked up, countrywide, after the tsunami?

Hi Thanks for the kind words, Nice to hear from the great clear headed folks on the forum. Yes Thailand is a great place to live, being a Buddhist country the people here are mostly peaceful, considerate and kind to others feelings. They would not last long in CFOT. The Andaman sea resort areas where the tsunami hit in December has not returned to normal and it may take several years to get back to where it was. As most of the tourist were Asian and Thai they are extremely superstitious (not Buddhist teaching) and believe the area is haunted by all the dead their.

But there are hundreds of beautiful resorts in Thailand along the sea of Thailand and in the north so there are many tourists that visit and enjoy the food, drink and beautiful places here.

I can remember several years back talking to a friend back home in Massachusetts about the exotic places I visit every other month on my Harley, and still do.
