Default Two tire questions...

1) To all you guys who state "I tried xxx size tire, but it didn't work so I switched to xxx".

What do you do with the tires you've mounted, drove on and swapped out? Send 'em back? Or do you have ceiling-high stacks of barely used tires laying around?

I'm getting ready to order a set from Discount or TireRack, but not sure if they'll work (or look right). Can I return them? Will a local shop let me try on tires like my girlfriend tries on shoes?

2) What tire machine should a shop have for mounting tires on polished aluminum rims? Same for balancing...

if they don't fit, get out the salls all and make them fit.

thats what i did on the front, trimmed the leading edge of the fender just enough to get extra clearance. No one is the wiser.

skinny tires look like hell on a vette.

Practically any shop will have the right equipment. Nowadays, even beaters have "bling" rims installed. So even the lowliest "south-of-the-border" shops around here have the right machines.

Tirerack has vendors in your area that they will deliver to;
check it out online, and just make the arrangement.

Unless your car is lowered to the max 255-60s will work fine.
Maybe fatter on the back, but I like to run the same all the way around.

My wheels are 17". I had 255/60/15's prior and they fit with slight rubbing. According to the tire-size calculator, an equivalent size is 255/50/17. However, when I posted that size previously, almost everyone says they won't fit.
