It's right.

Production delays on the 84 pushed it into the next model year.

Strictly speaking, they did build 7 (?) prototype 83s. The only one that I think still exists is in the Bowling Green museum.

The production year was actually 17 months....quality issues delayed 1983 models so GM just extended production to 1984....therefore,no "1983" Corvettes....I think...

I believe that I read that there were 45 1983 units built and all but one was destroyed and it is at the NCM.
Somebody who has been there let us know.

There is only one "1983" Vette still in existance. It now resides in the museum in Bowling Green. Prior to that, it sat in the main entrance of the assembly plant. All the other "mules" were crushed.

From the history section of the museum

1982
Chevrolet builds 61 1983-dated Corvettes; 18 are prototypes, the other 43 are pilot-line cars built with production tooling. All but one are destroyed; none are sold to the public.
1983
Production of 1984 model Corvettes begins, the first all-new Corvette since 1963. The manual transmission is again available as an option. Base price is now over $20,000.
Motor Trend magazine names the 1984 Corvette "Domestic Car of the Year" for 1984.
1984
Car & Driver declares the Corvette America's fastest production car at 150-mph.
The 1985 Corvette introduces the 230-hp L98 engine (25-hp more than 1984 models), with fuel injection returning for the first time since 1965.
A Corvette driver is SCCA Showroom Stock/GT champion, the first national title for the new model.
1985

and one of the magazines just recently did an article on the one at the museum and had pictures.

You guys are so full of crap. My cousin's best friend in college said he rode a friend's 83 once after a bachelor party in DC. I believe my cousin, so don't bother with the "facts"!

Was it one of the steel bodied Vettes I've heard so much about?

Einy said "everything is relative". Although there is no "model" year for 83 there were many cars built in 83 sose to my thinking... sure there are 83s. Just nothing like signals or dash gauge color changes or that itty bitty crap to distinguish from any of the other years! 82s were built in 83 too so that makes them 83s not 82s Huh right? right? whats the registration say?

Was your cousin's name Tommy Fanagan, and did he date Morgan Fairchild?

As others have stated, there were many 1983 Corvettes built, and 1 is exhibited at the NCM.

So all of us 2002 Corvette owners have the REAL 50th year corvette built. I don't need no stinking badge to know what year was Corvettes 50th!

This thread is too funny, you guys crack me up.

I believe the reason there were production problems with the 83 model year was due to production moving from St. Louis to Bowling Green.
