i put my t-tops on and decided to wash the car ....so i took the car out from the garage and decided to roll up the windows ....i then closed the doors....washed the car and was thinking about taking it to my parents house a few blocks away...i haven't taken the car out since i still need exhaust/interior stuff....... so i was gonna take it...then i realized that the keys are in the car....... damn...... it's not like i can get a spare set because i shaved my doors and locks....and i haven't gotten around to getting my door poppers to work..... so, here i am... the first and last time i will do this.... i can't get into the car...... i'm gonna try to coat hanger the window switch since i wired that straight to the battery..... (alarm was gonna roll the windows down...didn't hook it up yet)........ i'll be the first to laugh at me.....
Haha, as embarassing as it can be, things like that are more common than you think.
A couple of weeks ago I was adjusting things on the car in the driveway. This is Texas and the temp was near 100 at the time in the middle of the afternoon. I had the car running in the driveway because I was getting ready leave and for some reason I thought I'd shut the drivers side door (observing from the outside of the car) to see how well it met the weather stripping on the car after some recent window adjustments .
DOH!!!!...stupid me because I quickly realized that I now had the doors shut and locked with the car running in 100 degree weather. Now I've never overheated this car by leaving it running idle, but if it was going to happen, the conditions were just right. The second part of the problem was that my house key was on the same keychain that was in the locked car's ignition and I had just locked the garage door behind me as I was leaving.
LUCKILY I tried every door and window on our house and found one that happened to be unlocked so I was able to get in and dig out my spare set of keys.
Needless to say I felt....well....less than intelligent for that little fiasco. The funniest part is that my neighbor in the alley was also outside working the whole time and got a good laugh himself.

once i get my poppers working i will have a hidden switch just incase i lose my keys....... i have a set of battery posts under the car just in case my battery dies and i can't get in...... all this just just for some shaved handles......
i got in....i ended up pulling the passenger glass back/out enough to use a small alunimum channel i had to reach the window switch..... now i can breakdance.......
the style that i do is called poppin'...... basically a tension of muscle groups to the beat....... not bad for a guy with 2 bad knees and surgury in september......

Vette owners rule #1 .......... Go get a second set of keys made and always put one set in each pocket so we don't look uncool breaking into our own cars.
PS: Been doing this since '64 when I got locked out of my first GM car.

Ha! Funny....I have a spare door key in my wallet for those idiotic kind of things that do happen......
I locked my keys in my 72 once...lucky for me the rear window was out of it and i could reach in and grab them...must have looked funny as h*ll laying on my luggage rack, trying to reach in and grab them...haven't done that since.
... just glad I live where you don't have to lock anything.
I used to have TONS of keys ... now down to 3, with which I can start and drive 3 vehicles.
I closed my door while the "keys in the ignition" buzzer was going off. I had just hooked it up the day before- "whats that sound"? and realized when the door left my hand. damn
The drivers window was down a few inches and went to the store for a coat hanger. The guy who had gas caps for helicopters didn't have a locking cap for a 69 Vette.( gas was spensive in 1979) No cap but did get a coat hanger.
The keys did come out of the dash but fell between the seat and console, totaly out of sight. No way to turn the rotary lock.
DAMN. My spare keys are home, home being in NY and I'm in Virginia!
Then it hits me..... I had wired a spare key to the XXXXX on the car before leaving. I is smart
After getting a face of dried mud got the key and problem solved.
