I'm new here, want to buy another C3. Had a not so nice old 80 that I liked and decided to sell it and buy a better one. Bought an 89 roadster and didn't like so sold and back to looking for a car.I'm Running out of patience. I found a 74 roadster (2 top, 4 speed) low miles for $12,000. It's a nice car and I know it's a pretty good deal but it's brown (not my favorite color) and I would rather have an automatic.(I think I would like a roadster though) I would prefer a 75-77 automatic coupe but don't know if I should buy this and maybe I'd like a 4 spped and brown after I got used to it or maybe buy an 82 Collectors (pretty nice) I can get for around $10,000. I guess the thing holding me up on buying one of these 2 cars is they are both cars I would not feel I should modify or personalize. What do you think? Thanks for any input, Irvan
I'd like to have a '74 convertible with a 4-speed. Brown or not, when you cruise by, people will be looking wishing they were you.
If you limit your personalizations to things that could otherwise be put back (and that's a long list), then maybe modifications aren't really that bad.
I find that it takes enough to keep them running as is - there's always something that needs attention.

Me too...anyday...especially with the 2 tops. Just paint it maroon or anything that will match the interior for the mean time........you can get cheap facto-bake paint jobs for 600 or 800. Sounds like you have not completely made up your mind what you really want.
This is not a place where we worry about modifying cars.
I personally think it's a silly infatuation -- keeping cars "original" -- unless it happens to be one of 4 or 5 REALLY rare cars. Even the Corvette magazines are starting to tire of the "originality" craze and recognize the value of resto-mods.

Well I'm not a fan of the backend on 74s... but run the numbers on convertibles and 4speeds. 14% were convertibles, 67% were automatics, which equates to about 1,806 74 4 speed convertibles. Any of them at reasonable prices would be high on my list... brown or not. Actually I can't remember the last decent convertible I saw for $10K.
Figure out exactly what you want, look for it and don't give up. I found the one I wanted after several months...it was 600 milesaway...so I went and got it.
Beautiful car... and I'm bettin u wouldn't let it go for 10 Grand
It's a variant of the original color, but "root-beer" is an accuarte description. Hated it at first, but it grew on me.
I couldn't let it go for $10k. Got about $15k into it, along with blood, sweat and...more blood.
Everyone turns their noses up at auto's, but I have two good reasons why I couldn't live without it....1) SoFLA traffic and 2) Female passengers who wear short skirts!
