I was told that I have an incorrect oil pan on my 76, 350 SB. What I dont understand is that the bolt pattern is correct and the pan seems to fit fine. So what makes an oil pan incorrect? Is there or was there a special oil pan designed for corvettes? Obviously, the previous owner had to change the pan so thats what Im dealing with at the moment. I have the pan dropped and am changing the rear main seal. I dont want to go through the motions of cleaning the pan and preparing for re-install if it is incorrect. Thanks.
IIRC corvette pans have different ballfing and are shaped slightly differently to clear the power steering ram...all SBC pans will have the same bolt patterns....if you ran before with this pan - put it on and dont sweat it.

If it is an L-48, I dont think there is any difference between it and 95% of the std. Chevy pans. The L-82 MAY have had a windage tray in the stock pan.
I just installed a 1 qt. oversize pan, w/windage tray, and it was the same part # as any other Chevy.
