Default Engine, carb & intake numbers...

When I bought my 73, the previous owner told me the owner prior to him had replaced the original 73 engine with a GM 350 engine from a 79.

So I while I am working on the car I figured I would pull the numbers off of the components and ask your help in deciphering. Hopefully I pulled off all of the correct numbers.

Can you all help me verify the year engine or tell me anything else of interest about the components? In the next year, I would like to start modifying the engine or just perform a complete swap for a crate engine. Based on what I can learn about these components, etc it may sway me one way or another. Either way, I would like to better understand what I currently have under the hood.

Well, enough jabbering here are the numbers I pulled.

Carb
Rochester Quadajet
17054919018

Intake
3997771

Engine (not sure this is the correct number but they were the only ones I found. They were on the drivers side, low down between the firewall and the engine with the worda, "Made in Mexico" stamped right above them.
10066038

Any help is appreciated.

I am also going to see if I can determine my rear diff ratio so look for another post soon.

Shane

I think the engine is one of ther very popular Target Master GM replacement engines of the 70's early 80's...it may be a 4 bolt bott most of em were...the rest of the engine is pretty much stock reliable.

Is there anyway (other that removing the oil pan) to verify? Any clue what the original performance numbers were on the engine? Specs on these stock items?

What I am really trying to determine where the best "bang for the buck" can be made in terms of performance gains? For example, new car / intake combo? Or are these good up tp a certain point and aI should really just go for a cam swap? Headers? or something else?

Thanks
Shane
