Default Where does this console light go ??

I am moments away from buttoning up my dash and console.
However, I cannot find where this last bulb belongs.
It is an illumination light that comes on with the parking lights.
It has a special metal base that the bulb locks into.
After looking through the Haynes and AIM, I have determined that
it MUST be the bulb shown as going to the cigarette lighter/ashtray.
The PRNDL and heater control bulbs are accounted for and working (it's not these).
See picture of bulb below

OK - but there is NO place even near the lighter/ashtray to plug this thing.
Also see picture of console shifter plate below.
The previous owner replaced the ashtray just before I bought the vette.
Could this be the problem ?
Maybe the lighter was replaced ... and the original has provisions for a light ?

HELP !!!!

That light snaps into the side of the cigarette lighter housing if you still have the original style housing.

Dave,

The bulb socket has two little prongs that run vertically (must be on the side that not facing the camera). Those hook into two slots in the lighter housing (think I can just see them next to the ash tray). Electrically, it then grounds all the way through the console and its mounting screws.

Thanks Eddie 'n' Steve.

The bulb socket is just cylindrical on the outside, so maybe something broke.
I'll have to look at it more carefully tomorrow.
So, it is supposed to illuminate the INSIDE of the cig lighter socket ?

Anyone have a picture of it installed on the lighter ??

Thanks in advance !!

Just check the wiring diagrams on The '73 Spot, not the right year but should be close, and it shows the cig lighter light wire as being lt blue. The gray wire is for the light for the HVAC controls.

It's two-piece. There is a "C" shaped bracket that clips into the two long slots on the side of the threaded lighter retaining sleeve. The socket in the picture clips into the bracket.

Did a little surfing.

Here is good pic of the housing showing the slots:

This is for a 58-62 but it shows the way the bulb attachs:

Hope this helps.

I think GC is right and you need that C-clip that wraps around and up over the bulb. BTW: I seem to remember the wire on mine being grey as well.

Here's where it goes...nothing else needed. Just clip it on. Edit: Oh I see... You're missing the C-clip thing. Just make one out of some spare tin...
