Is there a way to bring my 72 alumin. intake manifold back to new. It off engine. Also, how about the allumin valve covers? Thanks! Don

also make sure you clean it very good. blast media will ruin a engine before you can say o.s. if it has a heat shield on the bottom make sure you remove it to get all the stuff out of it.

Paragon advertises aluminum intake manifold restoration services. I've had them do my windshield wiper and master cylinder. My experience is that they do really good work.

The performer that is on my engine was used. I had it bead blasted and it looks brand new.
I have a hugh Weiand Team G intake out in the garage that is a race manifold I was thinking of getting bead blasted to renew it so I can sell it.

Use Home Depot play sand (2.99) a 60lb. bag, sift the sand first, and use a small sand blaster, I have done many aluminum manifolds including my LT1 manifold I'm using now and they come out great. The play sand is fine and doesn't pit the aluminum. Mothers aluminum polish, 4x steel wool, and a buffing wheel will make the valve covers looking new....

Default My manifold & valve covers...

G'day members,
Gosh been at it all day, got the complete left hand suspension off today. Man o man, all the rubber was basically worn off!! Anyway, thanks heaps for the input on the manifold and covers.

73 jst4fun, how did u manage to get between the fins? Maybe there is a small buffing wheel ??

Carl a, wow... your engine compartment looks very nice. Needless to say, this is what I am striving for. May I ask, what exactly is por 15? and if I'm might be correct, do you put the Por 15 after u have the manifold cleaned up?

Thanks for everyone's input...Don

Default sand blasting...

Hello members,
Thanks heaps for the replys, Eddie 70...did you do the bead blasting yourself? I purchased a 45 dollar sand blaster today from Harbor Freight. Gosh, it really works well. I shot my drivers side removed control arms and various other items today. I thinking that I could practice on my allumn. bell housing with the beads. I'd post a pic, if I could figure how to do so. Don

What you need to do to post pics is to first upload your pic(s) to a location on the internet. Some people use cardomain.com, photobucket.com, photohost.org or if your ISP provides you with some webspace, that will work too. Then in your post, click on the "Insert Image" button (directly below the right side of the font "size" box) and then place the whole address to the pics within the box that appears. To finish click the OK button and what ends up within your post should look something like this.

Note that the image tags (img) are misspelled (image) so they will show up here and not actually try and display a picture.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

another option is to use Jerry NcNeish, he does a beautiful jop "reskinning" aluminum valve covers and manifolds, does not sandblast them.

my engine (ok, its a 65, but has aluminum valve covers and an aluminum intake) is shown in "My Corvette Photos" at left. Looks even better in person, poor lighting for the photos.

Default Manifold and valve covers

Hello ACECO...thanks for the info inregards to posting pic's. And 7n2 Vette... do you put straight baking soda in the blaster? Please advise. Sounds interesting... if it works that would be perfect for the fin area... Thanks! Don

Muddywaters,

ctjackster is right on. Check out Jerry McNeish's site. I and others have said, he is the best! The reskinning is done in a tumbling process and you would have to call them to get more info. After this process was done, I asked Jerry what do I need to do to keep it looking so great! He said, "nothing"..................score! The price was fare. They also check for cracks and repair. You owe it to yourself to check out their site. He did my 435 intake and I can email you a pic if interested. I had my bellhousing done by this process too. They do valve covers too, you name it, they do it and do it right. John Z in the C2 section would be glad I'm sure, to post a pic of the valve covers and engine for ya, he's had several pieces done.

Default Intake & covers...

Hello Cmacsvette, thanks for the input. I didn check out the link that ctjackster provided. Wow! they do excellent work. Thanks Ctjackster! I do believe though... I am going to have a go at it myself. For the covers... (Being a Tile Contractor) inregards to bullnosing granite then polishing back... I think I can polish the covers with the equiptment I have. The intake... I'm curious of the baking power.... think I'll try a bit in my blaster and test on the bell housing. Thanks Don

Yea, Carl a's pic inspires me !!!!! thanks Carl....
