Default Tires - correct info this time!

OK guys I need your input.

We have put 17 X 9.5 rims on the C-3. What size tires can I fit in - without spacers. (I don't mind if the stick out a bit - I'm looking for track tires - Like Hoosier scrubs - or something similar.

255 50 17 fit pretty good they are the same height as 255 60 15 and have alittle bigger footprint.

If your wheels have 4.5 BS front and rear your kind of limited to sub 26 inch tires unless you don't mind a little tire rub. I have tire rub at lock each direction. On my 1 1/8th sway up front and the frame in the rear. It's not a big deal you just lear n not to crank it all the way over going slow.

Tell me when your getting here and we can go to the track together.

You didn't say where your staying - Reno - Sparks -Fernley. The track has secuirity for leaving race cars over night, but you might want to check first. If your going to be staying at hotels with a car on a trailer I can suggest some Reno locations or these choices in Fernley.

My house is @ 35 minutes from the track.

So what tires did you decide on? The max width for an 8.5 rimis @265mm. Wider your kind of defeating the purpose because the tread exceeds the rim width.

Please excuse this off topic question. Do you happen to work at BP?

We run 245/45 on the front with 8" rims and no spacers. Puts the wheel just inside the fender well. The wheel backspace is 3 1/2". At a 4" BS you should be able to get 255's to fit. On the rear we run 275/40 on 9 1/2" rims with a 5" BS and 1 1/2" adapter.

Thanks for the info and the offers George - we will probably take you up on it - I'm waiting to hear from my brother. We (whenever the option is available ) usually- leave the trailers and cars at the track - just put an "uncuttable "trailer lock of some sort on the trailers. Makes it a lot easier.

As for the tires - we went looking for 275 - 40 - 17's or something similar. right now we are kind of stymied - nobody has used scrubs for the thing - apparently too popular of a size - then guys on the forum spread the word so everybody bought out all of the stock - so now we are tring to figure out if we want to get some new hoosiers from Tire rack - or get a regular road tire - wide as possible - and just go with those. as for the 8.5 rims - after we get a good look at em we might decide to go to a 9" on the rear.

I'll keep you informed

Well James,

first of all it depends on how you define work! I don't really do much to earn a living - I just kind of sit around and philosophize to a bunch of wanna be college students - not really work - but they do pay me for it! As for work - I'm currently building a house- not watching subcontractors work mind you - I'm really doing it myself - been at it 17 months - and the end is in sight - thats true work.

To answer your question - whats BP? Is that the oil company? Regardless I "work" for SCCCD, and FCC. (college professor)

But if you want me to pretend to work at BP I can - as long as you don't report me to your supperiors - I'll just pretend to be an undercover BP operative!!

Unfortunately I can't run spacers - to many of the race organizations we pay to play with do not allow them!

damn all of these numbers confuse me!

Default sizes available

Since nobody has any scrubs available it looks like our best remaining option is new tires from Tire Rack - they are right there in Reno - hey George, can we go by and pick em up to save the shipping costs? That way they could probably mount em too!

anyway it looks like the 17 inch tire size choices I have are:
225 - 45 (probably to narrow - right?)
245 - 40
245 - 45
255 - 45
275 - 40
so for 17 inch wheels without spacers
Unfortunately I can't lay my hands of the backspacing of the rims right now! any help?
