Yes, 68's had the ignition switch on the dash. There were tons of one year only stuff on 68's. I did a frame on restoration of a 54K mile 390hp two top air roadster several years ago, and getting the weatherstrip alone was a real pain. This car is not quite a benchmark, but very close. The ebay description says that the original owner had the paint work done back in 68. I will bet that even he wished he had not done it by the time he sold it.
You guys have obviously never looked for NOS 68 Vette parts. Besides the awful artwork on the paint (which can probably be rubbed out) this car is a "Time Machine". I sold a 1970 LT-1 Vette for $30K about 3 years ago with 54K miles on it but, in similar condition (better paint.) I didn't keep the LT-1 because it made me sick in the gut to drive it and I thought some "new citizen" would run a stop sign and cream the car at every intersection. 400HP 3X2 Vettes RUN! and seem to stay in tune better than their 435HP cousins. Great Vette and for around $35K it is a STEAL! (I would bet reserve will be met around there.) We will have to wait and see how the auction ends.
I totally agree! This is a nice '68 not considering the paint job.
Regarding the comment about the exhaust system having hit something:
The '68 big blocks had 2 1/2" pipes that were flattened slightly for ground clearance. Later big blocks had smaller pipes.
Also:
The wear on the brake and gas pedals is about right for 30K miles. My car was parked since the 70's with 45K miles and the pedals were just a bit more worn.
I still get a kick out of looking at these custom paint jobs that were popular back in the late 60's and early 70's. What we thought was cool......God! What were we thinking?!!!.....'course it was the era of peace, love and drugs!

Other than the era paint job, that's a nice car. Bet it bids to high 30's.
Where DID you get the weather stripping? I have an early 68 and that is one of the things on the list!

About the pipes...they must have used a hammer...
This one did not have "flattened pipes".....427/400 with original pipes..alot more miles,though...
Considering the '68 in this picture has an aftermarket air cleaner, most likely missing the tri-power, non-original valve covers, and has been fitted with the chrome "gill" trim (which was originally available in '69 only), aftermarket wheels and HEI ignition, I'd say the original exhaust was also long ago MIA and has been replaced with aftermarket exhaust as well....far from a bench mark example for a '68.

There are vendors that may still have some nos weatherstrip around, you would just have to search the web, make phone calls, etc.. I used weatherstrip from Dr Rebuild. He seems to have most of correct 68 w/s in reproduction parts. I don't know if it meets NCRS spec or not.
