technically no, but if you never plan on getting pulled over by the smog police, then sure, run whatever you want. they've been cracking down on the sportbike / import emissions violations esp. in Los Angeles areas... IMHO it's only a matter of time before the rest of CA conforms. since you're talking about a classic looking sports car, chances are they'll give you a bit more slack than someone with a newer looking vehicle. for the most part, it's officer's discression.
I'd imagine you'd have to have "smog" since all '75 Corvettes came with it "originally". There was a similar post a few weeks where a Forum poster was in a similar situation with a '77 Corvette that originally had smog and it had been removed and he was taking the car INTO California. Out there, I think it's just the pre-73 vehicles that are "exempt"

That's our boy. I believe he's going to do a "VIN swap" and make it a '75...
'75 and earlier are smog-exempt in Cali., but I think a car being registered in the state for the first time will be inspected.
Yes. No smog? No problems. I have to smog my '76 still, thanks to Ahhnuld.
yep yep i know your pain. me and my 76 are dieing for the day when he will sign that little peace of paper. But we are next on the list so any year now it is our turn.... then we get to have fun
here is the thing if you are 75 or older your car will not have to pass a smog test, but by law you still have to have all the smog stuff on your car. But the only way they are going to see that you have or dont have all of the smof stuff is when you register or if you ever get pulled over by a cop that wants to be a really big ***.
other then that you are just fine
like when my 76 does not have to pass smog anymore all of that stuff is coming off and headers and sidepipes are going on. So lets just hope the cops on the California roads will be nice to me

I think they have killed the 30 year rolling exemption...so from now on all cars must pass smog test from 1976 and above....forever...that is why I'm looking for an older one...
Rich
i guess i'm gonna do what i need to do and hopefully it'll all work out....... y does cali have that law anyways...u would think detroit would have it since it's the motor city and the only way to get around is by car since the public transportation sucks.......
