How long does your battery last?
Past Tuesday I drove my 82 about 40 miles to a cruise and when it was time to leave my battery was stone dead. Not even a blip, no interior lights, nothing. Another cruiser had a portable jumper pack and started me so I could get going. I drove 25 miles to a friend's house and when I turned off the car again the battery played dead. I've had the car about 1.5 years and this is the battery it came with, so I replaced it and checked out the alternator and everything is now fine. Just curious as to whether these batteries tend to last or not. Anyone have a sense of this??

I'm a big believer in the battery cutoff switches for our cars. The wiring is quite old and not getting any younger. I always cut the battery when the car is parked. I get about 5-years out of a battery. And my experience is that once they go, they go - no warning.

Battery life depends on many factors. Storing a car without excercising the battery will shorten its life. Where I live, with high corrossion, and lots of vibration due to bad road conditions, batteries last only about two years average. If you want to protect the life of your battery, you need to use it more and keep it fully charged at all times. Running a trickle charger every once in a while will help to protect the life of a battery in a stored vehicle.

I just replaced the battery that was in my car when I bought it eight years ago. I always disconnected it if it was going to sit for more than a week or so. I put about 3,000 miles a year on my '71 and never used a trickle charger.
