I took off my fan blade assembly last year to touch up and detail. At the time, it seemed odd to me that the 5 blades were somewhat off set to each other, and I wondered how it balanced that way,
Just now I began to hear a bearing noise coming from the water pump. Took off the fan and sure enough the main front water pump bearing is shot.
Could this somehow be related to how I re-installed the fan last year? Is it meant to go on in a specific position?
Actually, having a fan clucth problem is not a common problem. A bearing noise from the water pump could be an issue that needs addressed. Suggest you remove the fan & clutch (4 bolts) and see if you stilll hear the noise. Most of the time, if you just loosen the belt, the water pump will have a significant amount of play (up, down, right or let) if the bearing is shot. I don't think there is nothing you could have done with the fan to impact the water pump. Relatively speaking the water pump is much, much cheaper than then fan clutch.
