I Just Bought A Numbers Matching 1969 Convt (427 / 390h Fathom Green, Fathom Green Vynl, White Top, Green Hard Top, Side Pipes, 4 Speed Manual , 51000 Miles). It Came With The Original Tank Sticker But Its A Little Tough To Read. Is There A Corvette Historical Society That Can Trace My Vin? Somebody Told Me That You Cannot Trace A Vin Prior To 1981 When The Bowling Green Facility Was Built. I Just Want To Verify That The Car Is What It Is Claimed To Be. All The Vin And Casting Numbers Match But Some Of The Options On The Build Sheet Are Tough To Read.

There is no way to trace the VIN through GM records and it won't tell you much. It will be 194679S7xxxxx with the Xs representing your car's consecutive unit number. Nothing about original engine or options is included in the VIN. Your best option for determining your car's history is documentation provided by previous owners.

Sounds like a nice car! Unfortunately, as the others mentioned, unless you have some of the original documentation there's not much else to help you. One trick I saw somebody mention one time who couldn't read his tank sticker was to use a video camera with the "night vision" feature turned on. This guy claimed that he was able to make out portions of the sticker that he previously couldn't read by doing this. Sounds like witchcraft to me, but it might be worth a try!
