painting rally wheels
Anyone paint their rally wheels body color? Mine are the standard silver with the chrome trim rings. I would like to paint them black to match the body and was wondering if anyone has done this, do you have any pics and is there any special paint required.
thanks.
thanks.

We just delivered a 70 vette, white with platinum silver pearl ghost flames. We did the rims in the platinum pearl...Unbelievable! Looks soooo good and DIFFERENT!!!

The wheels on my 68 were the same color as the body since 1972 and I just went back to the correct silver gray wheels as part of the restoration project. (They looked OK in the body color which was a deep metallic green) The prior owner had painted them to match the body color and all he did was apply the same paint as the body and then some clear coat for extra protection.
If you want to see how your car will look then take a picture and just color in the wheels with "Paintbrush" software.

Before I got my cragar wheels, I painted my rally wheels black. The contrast with the car color and the trim rings really made them stand out. Any good quality spay paint will work as long as the surface is prepped well.

IMHO, rally wheels don't look right when painted any other color other than silver. I have seen several done in black at shows I have also seen some in yellow and red as well, nothing else looks better than argent silver.
If you want to change the look of the carI would just wait and do an entire wheel and tire swap.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall them supposed to be semi-flat black on the back of the ralley wheels?

I'd love a set of TTII's but can't afford them. I figure 10 bucks for paint would give me a different look. I'll also be getting some 275 rear and 255 front tires over the winter. Maybe $450 all together for this as ooposed to over $1200 at least for the TTII's w/ tires. I'll definately mock up a pic to see what I think.
