I just noticed that the locating stud on the corner of both tops is a threaded bolt but the hole that it fits into on the window frame has a nylon/plastic insert.
Shouldn't the stud be smooth so it doesn't wear away at the insert. The insert isn't worn, yet, but maybe the PO's didn't take the tops off much.
Would this be "original" or some sort of fix. The bolt has a very shallow head that is sandwiched between the retaining bracket and the underside of the roof panel.
BTW: Whats the recommended way to stow them in the back. I have nice thick-padded bags for them & I have been putting them in with the curved side facing forward & then securing them with the strap.
(That's the side that the door window seals up against.)

The next time someone has their "T" top off could they just have a look to see if the locator stud is actually a bolt or not. I just bought this car & I am still learning things about it so any help would be appreciated.
Well, I figured out why the bolts are there instead of studs. You can thread a nut on to them & secure the tops to the car so they can't be stolen. Interesting security feature.
