The numbers on the back of the block near the distributor is a casting number, which won't tell you very much other than a very broad application for that block.

The numbers on the pad in front of the passenger side of the block are the stamping numbers and will tell you if the block is original to your car.

In the second number sequence, this reflects a partial of your car's vin. That series of numbers should match the end series in your chassis VIN. In the first character sequence you will see a mix of numbers and letters. The last two or three letters in that sequence will tell what the engine came out of if it is not original to your chassis.

It is possible for these characters to be restamped but unless this is a very valuable car, it's not something I would be concerned about. If this does concern you (like you have a perfect life and nothing at all to worry about) then there are sites that will show you examples of original stamps (with the broach marks), good restamps, and bad restamps.
