188 LS6's were made in 1971..I think a vehicle this collectible will NEVER fall below 100...anyone who knows NCRS vehicles has seen this trend for many years..these are true collectables...nothing you do to your 75 will ever get you close to an LS6

Nice rare Vette, but still seems overpriced. I'm not interested anyway - want something I'm not afraid to drive!

John,

It really isn't a matter of throwing money at one car to make it faster than another... That's not the determining factor in why this car is priced where it is currently at. That LS-6 Corvette is an important part of Chevrolet history... The LS-6 was the last solid lifter big block that Chevrolet ever installed in a car and in fact came very close to not making 1971 production. It is a very rare and desirable car... You can't recreate that no matter how fast you're car is or how closely you build a car just like it. The value in a car like this is it's place in automotive history.

Let's both leave one day and see whose car makes it the furthest without breaking down.
I drove a 4.11 geared 1969 L-89 all over the country for seven years... Several trips over two thousand miles and probably a dozen over a thousand miles. Yes, it was a rare and desirable car, but that in no way made it less reliable to drive than any other well maintained Corvette out there. I purchased the LS-6 a couple years ago because I knew that once restored, it would be more reliable and fun to drive... Which is why I kept it and sold the L-89. I doubt that the LS-6 car will be any less reliable than my previous L-89 or your 1975.

I guarantee you that I will be driving that LS-6 when it is completed... It's too much fun not to!

As far as the comparison with the housing market... Recent history (1990-1991) in the collector car market would suggest that while prices for these cars may drop slightly (in the range of 10% or so) the bottom won't fall out... Too many people out there that still want to own these cars, regardless of the economic status. As long as there is a demand (and there is a strong demand), the cars will continue to bring close to the money that they are now.

Gary,

Nice call! That's good money for any LS-6 coupe.

Stan, I know I'm being a bit facetious so bear with me. I understand it's be a desirable car (Corvette) with a desireable and rare option (LS-6). It just strikes me as a little odd though that solid lifters and a big block, however rare, could make a car worth almost 10 times as much as an otherwise identical one, but you've got the people with the money to back up your side of the argument so I'll stop at that.
As far as reliability goes I would still much rather take my car with a relatively new engine cross country than a car with an old, untouched "survivor" drivetrain. John

John,

Your point is well taken... Some people see value in that historical significance, others do not... There is plenty of room for both goups in this hobby.

My '69 L-89 car, while not a body off restored car by any means, had most of the mechanical areas addressed while I owned it... I don't want to give the impression that it was an untouched original. Like you, I'd be a little aprehensive about driving an original thirty year old car cross country... You just don't know how it was maintained and cared for.

That car's new owner (a forum member) is currently collecting parts to do a body off restoration. I can't wait to see it when he is finished!

Regards,

Stan Falenski
