Just curious what your thoughts were on original lacquer paint cars being repainted in base coat clear coat? Does it effect value going to a 2 stage paint instead of lacquer or is this becoming the norm for restoration?
I think it would depend on the buyer.
First it isn't original paint.
2nd its not just a laquer paint job but a factory paint job orange peel included. A laquer paint job might not be original either if its done good.
3rd is how long it will last. Will it still be a new laquer paint job when you sell it.
4th is it for you or some distant future buyer.
5th and most important. Is the car your talking about going to be affected by originality or not?
lacquer looks just as good as BC/CC, and will last a long time, as long as you are not lazy and like to wax the car...did mine in original British Green, no peel, and waxed like crazy...people ask me if I have clear on the car...no clear, just wax...
Like I've said before, lacquer gets a bad rub.
I painted my car '77 Corvette Bright Yellow lacquer with lacquer clear.
Nothing looks any better than a lacquer paint job done correctly
