A while back I got a magnetic drain plug from Ecklers I believe it was, and it came with a plastic washer on it. I left that washer on thinking it needs to be there and now it is just a warped mooshed piece. Am I not supposed to have that plastic ring on there? My original drain plug didn't have anything, just metal to metal. What'd anyone else do with their's?
As best as I dan remember, I have a metal washer on my drain plug, I belive it copper. Just changed the oil a couple week back so it will be another couple month before I change it again to take a look at it.
The plug should have a washer though. I don't think a plastic washer would last very long with the heat from the pan and exhust.
The copper wahers are called copper crush and should be changed each time you change the oil, but I have reused my over many times and no leaks.
You can buy a pack of 5 washers, either copper or aluminum, from most autoparts stores for a few bucks. I justed purchased some copper ones a few days ago for both my cars.
