Default 16" or 17" wheels - help...

I am going to be upgrading my wheels soon from 15" Torq Thrust to either 16" or 17". I have seen a lot of pics of 16" on C3's but no 17's yet. Anybody got a pic or link they can share to help me decide would really be helpful...

THere are a few threads on this.
Do a search since there are several threads.
Some for bolt on 16" that the discussion ended on why 16 when the 17s are available?

There is a couple for 18 rear 17 front

and one with 20"s that look like model T wheels with rubber bands! Almost no rubber.

Go with 17"s. The selection for 16s is similar to 15s, non-existant.

I just put 17s on my car, and all I can think is that I should have got 18s. The only advice I have for you is: once you have them, it is a pain to change, so get exactly what you want.

What about them made you wish you went with 18's?

I agree completely. Spend the time looking at other cars with different size wheels and spend the time picking out the style you really want. I have heard of several people that dropped a load of cash only to see a style they liked better the next day. FWIW I spent a year deciding on my wheels and I am very happy with the result.

On the other hand, I knew exactly what I wanted before I ever found a company that made them! Took a couple months of looking, but it worked out 98% as well as I'd hoped. I don't think I could realisticly ask for more. If there's a style you like, somebody out there makes it!

There are also fewer choices for 16-inch performance tires than there used to be. I went to the Tire Rack and found the following 255/50-16 Ultra High Performance tires still available:

BFGoodrich g-Force Sport
Dunlop SP Sport 8000
Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus
Kumho ECSTA Supra 712
Sumitomo HTR Z

That being said, if I were going to buy new wheels today, I'd probably get the 17's, since there are greater tire (and wheel) choices available.

I sold my 17's to get 18's. The 17's just don't fill in the wheel wells enough if you want lower profile tires.

...and if you want the performance that goes with them.

Anything bigger than 18s look too rice and bling, though.

Shoot, the frame and suspension mounting of our "flexi-flyers" would flex more than the side walls of an 18...
