Default Valve cover emblem

What are you guys using that works to put on the emblem. This is for aluminum valve covers. The black round with the crossed flags. Mine does not want to stay put.

3M makes an emblem adhesive. Worked on mine!! Not sure about the part # but check with your local auto paint store or maybe some parts stores may have it.

JB Weld epoxy on mine. Use the epoxy sparingly a little goes a long way.

Yea I got some of that around here. That would make it permanent!

Try Gorilla glue, sold at your favorite place Gordon..........Home Depot Also a small dab of Weldwood carpet glue (the yellow stuff)
nothing gets that stuff off, holds like iron....

3M spray adhesive works real well. No build up like liquid glues. Superior holding strength.

Weatherstrip adhesive ... not that I've done it - but should work well and removable (to a degree).

Well, I've lost 2 of these things so far since owning the car.

I've cleaned the area with lacquer thinner, degreaser, etc. Roughed it up with course sand-paper. Maybe the aluminum retains the oil residue -I don't know.

I've tried super glue. The emblem fell off, there still was a powder-like residue on the cover left from the super glue. But the emblem is out there on the freeway somewhere.

I tried W/S adhesive, it does not hold as long as superglue. This one dropped off in my garage over winter.

I've got one brand new one that I won't install - at least I can look at it in it's little plastic bag.

Maybe I should just nail it on......

Duct tape?

Seriously, you need something flexible and high-temp compatible. The temps on the valve cover are pretty hot compared to most other areas typically used for stuff held on with adhesive. Also, the aluminum expands as it warms and the emblem is not expanding at the same rate, so it works the bond loose over the course of many heat cycles.

Silicone adhesives/sealants come to mind (silicone is generally good to about 600* and is notoriously flexible). The 3M emblem adhesive sounds promising, too(the surface of a typical black car gets damn hot and expands at a similar rate as Al).

This would have made me laugh harder were I not doing the same thing.

I've had a couple of people suggest using one of the high temp silicone adhesives intended for engine gasket instalation. I'm planning on using the copper colored one on mine. It worked well on my catalytic converter so it should work on the emblem.

You probably didn't do yourself any favors by applying the superglue. These cyanoacrylates do a great job or don't work at all. It looks like the latter is the case for these emblems. The resudue that they leave behind may impair adhesion for the silicone adhesive as well. My suggestion is to remove as much as possible. A little sanding might be in order.
