Poly mounts are plastic derivative, hence solid...use the rubber, it will be decades and decades before you have to change them, not to mention the ride comfort...68-72 used aluminum mounts...talk about a jarring experience...i cringed everytime I saw a bump in the road...
Rubber bushing for the body mounts are the way to go. Takes a lot of the vibration out. With poly you'll feel everything.
I just replaced mine with poly - I don't have a vibration problem at all..... it feels different, a lot better than with the worn 26 year old rubber... less cracking noises.... but vibrations ?? nope..... since you have a lot more experience with Corvettes than I have I'm wondering if you base your judgement on C3s with highly modified engines ?? As far as I know mine has rubber engine mounts, maybe that's why it's not transfering vibrations into the frame/body ???
Decades and decades out of rubber mounts/bushings is hopelessly optomistic. My '77's rubber parts were well compressed and crumbling at 15 years...they're downright awful now. It can't ride any worse with poly than it does now...
Can most of these body mounts be replaced with the body still on the car? I am not smart in the ways of these issues. I know that the mount I can see through the rear passenger side wheel well, #4 I believe, looks like it has mostly vanished into rubber dust. My car is an 80 by the way, if that matters.
I decided on poly for longevity.
One thing I noticed was the rubber mount design seemed
to collect and hold water. This accelerated the demise
of my 75 frame and birdcage. The greased-up poly mounts
should avoid this issue - plus they are not susceptible to
oil/gas contamination like rubber is. Then there is the almighty
deciding factor ... co$t.
