I,m finishing up my doors with primer and have had to repair the holes left from the mirrors they had been repaired and filled in a past life and could not be used again..Had to drill out metal inserts like the ones used on sheet rock walls .. The mirrors were always loose
.. I have filled and smoothed the holes from the inside and out with resin/fiberglass ...Now that its nice and smooth I,m considering leaving the doors smooth No side mirrors for a more sleek look. Anybody out there running no side mirrors ? I guess I could always install them later if I can,t see anything along side me
Whatta ya think !68 before picture ;;;Mirrors or no mirrors ?
i would definetely take the passengers side off. it all depends on the look you want. i don;t even use the drivers side mirror on my car but i just have it there to keep it looking original. it looks good either way.
Just the opposite here. I installed a passenger side mirror and hardly use the rear view mirror. Toying with the idea of getting rid of the rearview anyway. Guess it comes from driving a large truck in my early years where you have to get used to side mirrors all the time.
I thought the driver's side door mirror and rearview mirrors were required by law. Passenger side mirrors were not installed as factory equipment for '68 but were available as a dealer installed option.
Personally, I need all the mirrors I can get. I thought long and hard about whether to add the passenger side mirror. I like them because
1) They make the car "symetrical"
2) I like the improved visibility
I have elected to add the pass side mirror. Haven't installed it yet, but have a new one in the box.
I don't know 'bout the mirrors, Your Vette looks awesome but the wheels have to go. With all the choices out there "now" you can do a lot better than a Western Wheel.
i'm in the same situation.... i "shaved" alot of the extras off and still debating on the side mirrors.... i was thinking about doing small motor cycle mirrors in the pillars or have them on the visor rods to swing out..... i haven't made up my mind yet

While everyone is talking mirrors, I will see if I can hijack this thread. I have a 71 vert that I wish to put late c3 sport mirrors on. The 71 mirror mount is attached to the outer fibreglass only, while the late c3 sport mirrors use fairly long 3/8" studs. When mounting these, do you drill through the fibre glass skin and the metal door frame underneath? on my doors there is an inch or mrer gap between the two. It also looks like the metal is intended as a water diverter, angled toward the outside of the door. Any comments or recommendations?

My recommendation is don't do it. Doesn't look right on a chrome bumper car.
The issue is the mirrors were incorrectly mounted in the first place. If you mount them/ it with the screw plate on the interior of the door then no probleemo.
But to answer your question. Tape over your mirrors on the car your driving now.
Count how often you look at the tape.
Count how often you change lanes into someone, would they have a use counts.
Blind spot problem or not?
Did you find it annoying looking at a dead mirror? If you do then switching cars will do this too. In reverse. You'll look at nothing in the Vette.
I have seen a lot of talk about visibility with the stock mirrors. Before my car was torn apart, I remember seeing the top of the rear fender in the mirror (and not much else). I don't really know about the right side mirror but it seems as if it would be similar.
I would like to hear comments from people who have one or both mirrors and visibility. Thanks

I use the rear view mirrors on my vehicles all of the time. When I got my vette there was no passengers side mirror. I really missed having a PS mirror. When I got it painted, I wound up adding a PS mirror and have been happy with it ever since. The mirror is like having an extra set of eyes for me.
My recommendation is don't do it. Doesn't look right on a chrome bumper car.
Well, I only have chrome bumpers on the rear. I have an Ecklers one piece tilt front end, seats are out of an 81, stayfast canvas top instead of vinyl. Not very original
Right now my car is in primer and yes I plan on going with the Coys 17inch grey or black centers and lowering the rear of the car .....Thanks for all the opinions lots of valid points ...I just glassed over the passengers side door today ...I rarely drive with the top up or the hardtop on So vision has never been a problem ..With the top up I could see a safety issue ....
For now I,m going SLICK no mirrors
i don't see any pictures without side mirrors. I was thinking the exact same thing. Remove the mirror but leave the mount so i can put it back on for the yearly inspection.

My '73 doesn't have a pass. side mirror and I miss it.
I was trying to decide if I wanted to drill the door to install one
