Default How Do I Install New Vent *****

I ordered new vent ***** with felt for my 68' bb roadster. How do I install these without making a mess and tearing apart something I don't need to break??
Thanks

The passenger side one is a breeze--just take off the right hand dash.

The left one--well--let's say I would rather change the motor in the rain.

Well I guess I'm not the only person who has no clue on how to replace the ventilation ***** and has a concern on breaking more parts !!

I replaced mine. The dash panels have to come off. No buts about it. The driver side is a real PITA.

I figured with the ventilation ***** being inexpensive to purchase the real chore was the time involved in replacing them..BUT how do you replace them ..step by step would be helpful..I'm about as mechanical as a parolee attempting to pass the bar exam with only a prison education !!

There is a plastic cup looking plate that bolts onto the rear of the dash. It straddles the ball and should have some stick on felt to keep the ball vent from moving around. Once you look behind, you will see how simple it is.

I have done the drivers side without removing the dash. Loosen it at the door jamb and remove the 2 steering column support bolts (9/16 inch?) to allow the pad to pull out a little. If you have air cond., remove the left duct assy. Get a small flashlight, peek in and locate the three retaining screws.(Phillips). Remove the screws, retainer and the ball. You may not wish to replace the felt, as I have found the thickness to be too much. This is much quicker and safer than removing the dash, IMO...G/L

They can be popped in and out from the front of the dash! No dash removal necessary. They are not exactly round, and if you turn them a certain way, they will pop out. Somebody told me this and I didn't believe him, but sure enough, they came right out! I don't remember exactly how I turned them, but once I did it was a piece of cake. 5 minute job!

Hope that helps,
Jeff

Hmmm, didn't see anything broken. All I know is that both of them popped out very easily when I got them turned to the right angle. And while everybody else was dropping their steering columns and dash pads, I was out cruisin' with shiny new *****!!

That's how I did mine, the ball retainers were not broken before or after I did them either.

Ballzy or not that's how I did mine.

Almost positive I read in one of the vette mags that this was possible.
I would'nt have dreamed of doing it otherwise.

I first tried it on an old dash pad and it was so easy to do.

5 minutes later my car was done, nothing like nice shiney vent *****.
