headlamp switch
so....Headlamp switch on order for HOOTERS. (well, i reckon that right there sounds funny now that i think about it! 
)
apparently the headlamp switch on my 68 operates the headlamps...check, these are working properly.
the dash and tail lights.......oops, these are not working at all!
and the interior lights......oops, these work all the time unless i disconnect the battery.

I'm having similar problems at the moment. Headlights on,brakes fine, directionals fine- No Tailights, No Instrument cluster,No speedo tach lights. I ordered a h/l switch. It's not the headlight switch as I bench tested it further. When I plugged it back together, the dash lights work, even dim as well as the tail lights started working again. Seems the connector contacts needed some cleaning,wiggling wires. But the switch itself tests ok. But it's the courtesy lights that remain out on my car.
Check the fuse for the tailights if you haven't already.
I think your problem is the door switch located in the forward jamb part of the door. Mess with it a little. Push in out on both sides a bit. I believe I have a short from a bubba repair under the dash. Good luck to you. Let us know what you find is the problem.
