Default Occasional compressor use

Now that I'm in-between major projects on the C3, my garage air compressor rarely gets used. Obviously, when I did the brakes, suspension, engine work and interior, the compressor was on for several hours a day.

The next major project, the rear end, won't be til' next Summer (if it lasts) so the air compressor is not getting much use currently. I have started leaving the petcock on the bottom of the tank open about a quarter-turn, allowing the water to drain out of it.

When I do use the compressor, the small air pressure loss from the valve being open, isn't enough to cause the compressor to work overtime. But when I shut if off for the day, the pressure drains out slowly and water goes out with it.

Just figured I'd share this and see if anyone out there does the same? Doesn't hurt anything and the upside is that water never collects in the tank.

Unless you use it every day, draining once every 2 weeks should be enough...It only collects moisture when running, out of the air..I keep the valve closed.........

Yea that's kinda my thoughts too ... but I figgered I'd share the idea of leaving the valve open a bit. True that the comp does not build up water unless in use. But leaving the valve open a crack doesnt' seem to hurt my op or increase the ON time.
