The shrader valve inside the old fitting can be removed and should be removed; any auto parts house will carry the tool to remove it. It is just like the shrader fitting in a bicycle tube it allows you to put air in but it will not allow the air to escape without depressing it. The problem will be that you will need to have another vacuum pulled on the system again. Without being there to look at the fitting myself that is on the back of the compressor I am not sure if the fitting is on the high side or the low side. They are usually welded to the line itself, how about a picture. Is the fitting cap that came with the 90* retrofitting red or blue? After thinking about it the charging hose will not fit on the high side fitting. Once you get the shrader valve out of the old fitting and another vacuum pulled on the system I think you will ready to charge your A/C and enjoy some cold air.

The port caps should be marked with a L for low or a H for high

The cap on the new fitting is blue. The old caps were both black. I'm not worried about high side vs low side, because I am sure that where I am putting the fitting is the low side. I know where the high side is, which is on the small line up by the fender top. The low side is on the big line right at the compressor (where I'm putting the new fitting), and there is a second one on the accumulator. This is confirmed in the shop manual.

I'm just trying to get the new fitting to work. I guess I'll have to get the tool to remove the old fitting guts, and put on the new fitting. The guy who Evac'd it for me is a real good guy, and wasn't even going to charge me for the first time he did it but I insisted on paying him, so I'm sure he won't charge me to do it this time.

Thanks for the help guys!!!!
