I never thought much about flares, but the flares on these cars are done so well

These are radical customs, but look past that part and you can get an idea how the pulled fenders look. It's really NOT difficult to do if you can do basic glass work. You pull it out in the center, prop it with a block or such, glass back together. Pull the block, build extentions to the inner fender to fill the opening (I use cardboard, glass over it, grind the cardboard off. Can build any shape that way easily). Finish the glass work and paint. It's so subtle that you look but don't really see that it's pulled out that much. Even my radical '66 has the front and rear fenders pulled out...way out 10", and THAT IS NOTICABLE!

This was HIS design, NOT mine!

Ours are the ACI 4" flares. If you're running a big block, you need the extra rubber to get the power to the ground.

PAT, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind answering them.

First, how much did you add to your 2 1/2" flares?
Second, What rear wheel (width & BS) and tire size are you running?

I'm hoping to run a 5.5 BS with 5.5 to get 11 inches of wheel under the rear. The two inch additional wheel well should allow another 1.5 of offset.

Front is not that important but interested in seeing what you run there as well.

Looks great! I'm planning on buying the set RedVetRacer has, I think these will do what I am looking for. But I would like to see what you are running anyway. Thanks Jim

prosouth, jim they were 2 to 2 1/2 inch flares that i added approximately 1/2" to 3/4" to them and also dropped them down a bit to tighten up the wheel well spacing. My rims are 17x9.5 with 4 1/8 back space,at the time i didnt want to remove the sway bar but if i did i couldve fit 17x11's no problem.Which i still might do this winter, sell the 2 rears and have 2 -11's made for it and remove the rear bar.Itsd reall yhard to say what i gained now without having the old quarter in front of me now.

Thanks Pat, Looks like someone got in front of me on RedVetRacrs flairs so I may have to find a set from a vendor. Anyone have any idea who makes this size or where to get them?
Thanks JIM

Thanks. The wheels are CCW's (Complete Custom Wheels) out of Daytona. I got the wheels and tires at the same time and don't have a breakdown. It was around $3000 for all 4. I'm thinking the wheels were around 450 each. The great thing about them is that they are 3 piece wheels, so I you bend one, you may get away with only replacing one part.

I agree that if you are going to flare, you need to fill up the space.

I to have a flaired 69 C-3. Has anyone had experience with tire selection in 15 in. I am looking for something to run on the street. Some 26 by 9 or 10 for the front and some 27 by 10 for the rear. The only thing I have found in 15 in. are Hoosier Quick time and Goodyear Vintage Blus Streek's.

Also do a search on http://www.summitracing.com for Mickey Thompson, Cooper Tires, BFGoodrich Tires in the Wheels and Tires section.

Hope that helps.

Another way to look at available tire sizes is to use TireRack.com

Go to TIRES > SHOP > BY WHEEL DIAMETER, then select the diameter that you're looking at (15").

Thanks for the leads. Found a few not sure what works best. Hoosier Quick time dot ,Nitto
both are more of a drag type tire. Pirelli P Zero used them on a CTSV coup not all that great to me. The Avon CR6zz will try Rodger Kraus on them , easy to find in Europ . The Goodyear
Cobra Blue Streeks thru Jeg's , expensive but look great. Also a suggestion of groving some Hooser's . Mickey Thompson SS drag radials, here some guys are auto crossing with them ?
For my usage on the street great traction on the leave and o.k. In the rain are the priority.
I am not going to gun down a high speed deal on the street. Has anyone first hand experience with the above tires. Thank's.

There's just no upside to adding a question onto a 17 year old thread that hasnt been posted to in 5 years.
