Anyone have a pic of an L88 hood?
I just searched the internet for 2 hours trying to find a picture of the underside of an original L88 hood... no luck. I'm not sure if the part the air cleaner fits in is different from 67-69 either. I'd like to see any year for comparison.
Anyone have one?

Stock GM L-88 hood, not the best pics but the light in the garage was poor Can take more in daylight if needed
The inner brace is a key indication of a stock GM L-88 hood

There were differences at the rear "ledge" also. Your "reverse S" shaped support was one of the two used, the other was "I beam" shaped. I wil try to post photos of the two designs tomorrow. G.

I'm assuming there's no air filter inside the hood (only that screen that fits against the foam filter when it's closed)... and no apparatus to open or close the cowl induction?

The official L88 air cleaner element is foam applied to that steel mesh. The foam is not visible once installed in the plenum.
A 14"x3" filter element will fit if you shim it a bit with some weatherstripping or foam. The plenum opening is 14"x3 1/2" on the factory hood...not sure about the aftermarket stuff.
There is no way to open or close the plenum like on the later cowl induction systems.
Yes, you can clearly hear the air being sucked into the engine.
Yes, you can see the filter element while driving.
Yes, it will pull in rain drops at 65 mph.
Yes, it increases power and efficiency.
Yes, it is cool as hell.

Yes it is.
While we are on the subject. Someone had a post asking about a taller version of the L-88 hood the other day. I was over at CorvetteMIcks looking at his 68 L-88 race car and his hood is the L-88. It had been longer than I had thought since I saw one up close and I was of the idea that it should have been taller than it was. I think I made the comment as to why did it need to be taller. The reason for that comment was that one of the chrome bumper cars I owned actually had (I believe) what was called a ZL-2 hood that was 5 or 6 inches tall. Does anyone else know if this was a real GM hood or patterned from one or just another aftermarket make-up?
BTW it did not have the bottom chanber to seal to the L-88 air cleaner.
I wanted to think that Duntov had a ZL-2 hood made for his test car. jim

Definitely one more reason all of us selling Corvettes in 1973 were thrilled to see that we finally got ram air and rubber bumpers that GTO had had for several years
Still had that dumb radio antenna on the back though.
