Rots of rust. Figure what you can't see doesn't look much better. People will probably tell you it's a parts car now, but just figure the cost of replacement into the price of the car.
This is what you will probally find when you get in their.
Before I started to repair my birdcage it did not look as bad as the pics. you posted.
Looks like it is going to be in bad shape behind the fenders.
the sections with the holes is not really structural, it's a sort of metal flap on the side, but it's not fiberglass. What lurks under the fiberglass cover on the pillar itself and under the bonding adhesive is what could be really nasty. This pic may help to clear up what's fiberglass and what not, disregard the cage nut hanging on the pop rivet there, it's not supposed to go here. You can see where the (aint stripped) fiberglass pillar covers go (they are there sitting in place)
mine actually had bondo there that somebody tried to smooth out and fill the space up into the underside of the fender. Its amazing what DIY'ers do over the years to these cars. The problem on mine was the fenders want to flex or expand different than the steel, and so the bondo cracked. I just ground it all out and sanded smooth. Looks good now.
I thought the actual "half moon" holes were supposed to be there. Mine has those, but the whole thing just looks smoother. Id take a pic, but I have new weatherstripping in that goes in that area. It looks like the steel has bubbles pretty bad in your pics.
I'd also like to see some pics of that area. Now Im curious what others look like.
