Convertible Top Cable
Does anyone have a diagram or know how and where the convert top tension or hold down cables are attached to thr inside of my top? I have a 74 and someone has removed them. Next question is are they needed? My 65 doesn't have any and the top works just fine.

I assume you are referring to the cables that run along the top edge of the window channel? One on each side?
If so, they are there to prevent the top from curling up, and YES, they are needed. Al Knoch makes a point of mentioning them being important in his installation video. The spring attaches to the corners of the header bow with a rivet or small bolt. The rear I don't remember. Try to keep that spring tucked in a tight as you can, cause it contacts the top and can cause an unsightly lump.

Here are some pictures from my 69. I believe it is the same on your 74.
Rear attachment is by the second bow
A little closer look at the rear attachment
The front attachment is at the header bow. This was after I drilled out the rivet but it at least shows the location
And the routing is near the edge of top (next tio my hands)to keep it from curling up
Hope this helps

When I had the top replaced on my 69, I purchased new cables from Ecklers. When the upholstery shop attemped to install them, they indicated they were two long and wouldn't fit. When compared to the old cables, they were several inches longer. I don't know if there are different lengths or if Ecklers sent the wrong parts.
