Just turned corner to my house yesterday when I seen this:
Neighbors house....seems their son was smoking in a woodshed (attached) to their two story....fire traveled up to eves, caught roof...Mail lady spotted it..warned family..no one hurt...hydrant is in my front yard...very close call as wind was up.....
I know that sudden hair-raising feel you got. I lived in the only house on a cul-de-sac once and on returning from a weekend trip one Sunday, as we turned into the street it was filled with about four fire trucks. Turned out to be a woods fire comming from the other side and they were going in here to get in front of it.
I just had a close call on Monday. I was chargeing the battery in our generator, and the battery exploded while we were at work. The generator burned up, but nothing else caught on fire in our wood framed garage. We had a freshly restored '67 Cougar, '67 bug, '69 R code Mach 1 and a '69 H code Mach1 in there. The generator was in between the Cougar and the bug. Other than soot covering the cars, there wasn't any damage. We dodged an RPG there.
Our house burnt to the ground about a year and half ago. We had a detached garage with a brez-way from the house. Garage had some fire damage but a whole lot of smoke damage. Luck for me I was at a car show in the vette.

makes you want to look into a sprinkler system. Of course it probably wouldn't have helped your neighbors any since the first started OUTSIDE their house..

I did 27 years on one of those rigs. Everyone loves to a see a firetruck go flying by till it turns into thier street. Now I'm just flyin by the fire boys in the ole Vette. Oh yeah one more thing...didn't know I was a hero for 25 years till 9/11 hit. God Bless those 343 firefighters and thier families!
