Default Monospring Users - experience please

I installed a 360# monospring on my '77, and while I haven't driven it ...it certainly is lighter!

My question is this: The ride height is about 28.5" to the fender flare, so it's pretty close to where it needs to be. But, when I jack the car up by the frame, the threaded bolts do not maintain tension and there is "slack" between the spring and the trailing arm.

Does this mean the not has not been run far enough along the travel? Do you adjust for ride height and nevermind the bolt when jacked up? Won't this wreck that bolt over time?

I'm looking for someone who's had a little experience and knows what I should be seeing here.

Thanks!
Brian.

No, everything is fine. 'glass springs have less arch. Set the ride height as you wish. The slack will always be taken up with the vehicle on the ground.

Have you also fitted shoks that are compatible with a composite spring?

yep--had mine on about a year; used long bolts to drop it a coupla inches. if you put long bolts in, make sure you cut the excess length off them; otherwise, you can run into unneccessary clearance problems--especially if you have a blowout (which i did).

Since I purchased all the items as part of a kit from VB&P, I am expecting that the shocks are appropriate. I have the Billsteins. I went with 550# and 360# rears with the package I selected.

I'm just real anxious to get back on the road

Thanks.

Wow! I'm glad you said something ...I hadn't considered that, but it's very important.

Of course, once the tire blows, then the good news is the pavement will grind any excess bolt off automagically!

I had a chance to get the vette out yesterday and do some driving with it. The ride is what I would describe as much improved. I would say that there is very little body roll left, and the car is overall much stiffer (I started with the 9 leaf, 293# no rear sway-bar).

I'm sure it's a matter of getting used to. Substantial bumps obviously transferred some energy into the car and into us. The car settled almost instantly after hitting any of those things. The rear felt a little more springy that the fronts did.

As for turns, the car feels like it's on rails now. The body stays up and level even under hard turns. In fact, the tires were giving up before the body had any noticable roll in it

The only thing that I'm surprised is still there is this odd "oversteer" type situation that only happens when I turn other than gently. It isn't there to start with then, boom ...it feels like the back end jumps to the right or the left depending the direction of the turn.

I have not had thsi vehicle professionally aligned, yet ...but I found that it drives the same as before, so it's at least no worse.

Overall, I think I'm pleased, and I'll know for sure as I have a chance to drive it a little more.

Brian.

I haven't been on the forum in a while, but saw the post.. These springs are the best. No roll and you can take corners no problem.... For shocks, use the bilsteins.. they are the best.
