Sorry if this is a repost. I managed to get the headlamp doors up for inspection, now I can't get them to go back down. Suggestions on what I can try/look at?
Sounds like the common vacuum woes and I'll let the other experts here help you, as I've not had to mess with the hoses yet. Anyway, If you just want to get them down, you can do so manually. I'm not sure on an 82, but on my 70, there are access holes on each side of the nosepiece underside. Just reach up in there, and pull the linkage forward toward the bumper at the point where it hinges and locks (electrical connectors mounted here on mine). Its kind of hard to describe, but if you stick your hand up there and feel around, you should be able to get it down.
Good luck.

This is gonna sound "off" but look down between your legs underneath the column, there is a little ****. If you pull down (or push it up) it will activate the doors.
I was replacing my brake light switch & must have moved it because my doors wouldn't close either. I figured I must have broken something.
Since I have only had the car for a few months & didn't even know it was there I had to call the local shop to find out what happened.
It will allow you to open & close them with out turning the head lights on & off & I think the engine has to be running.
