Lean will give higher exh temps which might give discoloration, mine are not a bright and shiney as when they where new but still look pretty good except for the scratchs.
There were some posts a few weeks back saying that high exhaust temps can be caused by too lean or too rich, that the best way to tell is to look at your plugs or have the a/f read like at a dyno.
