I just bought my uncle's 77 that he bought new, but it's in severe need for a paint job. he had it done a few years back and they did a horrible job so it just looks disgusting. I don't want just a basic paint color, so I've been tossing out ideas on what I want, and I came to a final decision... I LIKE the concept, but i'm not really sure exactly how it will look, so here's my question......
if I were to use glossy rattle can spray paint just to see how it looked, how much MORE trouble would the paint shop have to do to remove the old paint since they have to strip the current stuff anyways??
any other thoughts on the subject are appreciated. btw; the very poorly photochopped concept of what I want to do is this (no laughing hahaha):
Im in the same boat, my car needs a paint job, and a new rear bumper cover because it is cracking. BUT it still looks good 10 feet away, and i want to do some engine/exhaust work this year to make it quicker. So instead of half doing both i chose one, and ill get it painted next year.
i guess I should have explained a bit better... I have the money for the paint job and plan to do it ASAP... but I don't want to drop the bundle of money without being sure I will definitely like the paint job when it's done
How about using some masking or painting tape. You could apply it in the pattern you wanted and then maybe hand brush the paint on the tape to give it the proper color. At the very least it would give you an idea of what it would look like. Plus, once you decideded whether you like it, you can just remove the tape.
The spray paint is just going to turn you off. It will not look good at all. Might as well just stick to photoshop. Like someone said, take a pic of your car, and let the guys chop it.
Do a "mock up"...go to a fabric store and get yellow ribbon....you can tape it,trim it,or whatever..take photos..ribbon comes in several widths..lengths..
hahahahahahaha nice comments...... i just like yellow/black color combinations (as can be seen w/ my jeep in the background) and a solid black vehicle just doesn't appeal to me, so I want some sort of yellow on it... and those stripes were my favorite of the various chops I did
