I did mine with only using a jack. No problem removing or installing them. Just keep in mind that a loaded spring can be dangerous. Once the lower control arm is high enough and not at a severe angle to the upper arm, the spring isn't going anywhere. I don't see any coil springs laying along the road because the came out the pockets by themselves. If I were to do anything for safety, it would be to put a chain through the shock tower.
