I have been restoring my 73 corvette coupe, just bought a new frame and have found when i was taking the car apart to transfer, alot of the metal for the body support is rotten only on the closest portion to the frame between the firewall and behind the back of the door.i can easily fabricate all the peices as i have full access to a metal fabrication shop but my problem is this is my first vette and i really dont know what the pieces are to look like and what the specs/demensions are for refabrication.I bought a book on restoring and modifying corvettes from amizon.com and i might as well use it as toiletpaper because although it is called "how to restore and modify your corvette" it tells you nothing about frame off jobs and how to correct problems like myself and others in my situation run into.my question is does anyone know of a good book i can use as a reference when doing this job,one that actually gets into body off restores and shows original part specs,how-to's etc.
thank you for any suggestions.
Contact Paragon (www.corvette-paragon.com). They have many of the sheet metal braces that you need. You will probably find it cheaper and less aggravation to buy the parts rather than reverse engineer and fabricate all of the parts. I haven't found a restoration book that contains many of the details of these kinds of parts. Your best bet would be to buy an AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) for your year of Corvette. It contains sketches of the sheet metal parts as they are used in assembly. Unfortunately, it doesn't have dimensioned drawings.
I agree with Lemans. Paragon is the way to go. I have used several of their parts to fix the cancer. I have found their customer service to be outstanding. The best book I have found is "Chevrolet Corvette Restoration Guide" by Lindsay Porter. It gets down in the weeds pretty good. A lot of frame work and body work in the book.
