I came across a 71 4-spd vert that needs a new frame. I was just curious if a car with a different frame under it is of less value than if it had the original frame? All other components in the drivetrain are #'s matching but I didn't know what the impact of a non-original frame had on the value of the car.
I don't know a single person that has ever checked to verify that the frame is original. If you use a correct frame it is next to impossible to check the VIN on it.

Every NCRS judge checks the frame for authenticity (serial number)
who would know. the average JOE buying a used vette would give it a good going over and if it looked good he'll buy and be none the wiser other than he checked for the usual rust spots and they looked fine.
It is a very reasonable question. He wants to know if he buys the car cheap and puts in a new frame if he will then have a car that is less valuable then the same car with original good frame. If the replacement frame is "correct" noone will know the difference.
The responses were great and you guys pretty much answered my questions. It's an Ontario Orange (71) 4 spd convertible with original drivetrain. He states he has a frame for it as the origianl is rusted. He tells me the interior is in good shape. He's asking $8500 which I'm thinking may be reasonable depending on the condition of everything else. I need to go take a look at it. He also has a 70 Big Block 4 spd with air that does not have the original motor that he's asking $9000 for. He told me that one is a little rough needing paint and interior work. If I have more questions after looking at these I'll be sure to post them on here. You guys are great! I'm going to own one of these C3's one day!!
