Default Whats your engine?

I find it a bit tedious reading about these diesal electric drive systems some people are using so what do you have? If you have a dyno sheet post that too please.

Mine is simple. 427 9.25 or 9.5 CR and a middle of the road cam. 276-284 duration-.544 lift. Modified 850 Q-jet. Combustion chambers were equalized and polished. Forged stuff for innards. All others are stock.
I guess torque and hp to be a low of around 370 or so. Going by other low CR BBs. Notice I'm not claiming 500 hp?
I also estimate my power isn't at all rpm points but only at max. I don't get 370 hp at 1000 rpm. BUT I do get a considerable slice of the cheese down there.

I can't spin the tires but for some reason the car just accelerates instead. Damn! Since the goal was to drive this car on the street thats what I built it for. No Hp built so high its never used and no unbelievable CRs on pump gas.

All comers welcome... street, street strip or strip only. Just be sure to include that

Please no magic small blocks producing 500 hp from 2000 -7000 rpms.

why no magic sb? im over 500 at the flywheel. to many folks in this forum underestimate the small block. the big blocks carry a certian false prestige. im not knocking bb, but dont be surprised when you get beat. todays tech and $ will make any engine work well

Not 500 hp SB. Those are fine. Magical SB that produce the same amount of power through the whole rpm range. I think some people need to choose. Does the engine produce 500 hp at 6000 rpm or 2 grand? it aint both. Building like this means you lose at one end or the other and it don't make a twiddle what the engine is you started with. If I'm wrong then this thread is perfect for proving me wrong.
And yes I agree a SB can produce a lot of power with a lot of $$. But so can a BB. This isn't a slamming contest on SB vs BB just a built engine comparision.

Trying to do 3 things here. Show the large difference in engines people are using.
Have kind of an informal data base for those who are trying to decide on what to do or get.
Shake out the magical engines since several 350s all built the same should have roughly the same performance. Back to the use of magical shelaylees which I have yet to find in Jegs.

Mines simple a street engine that sees occasional track use, Basic LS-4 internals (cam was changed with ovehaul with last owner so it's an unknown but mild, probably LS-5) heads were off but not known if they were shaved so compression is going to be between 8:25-8:5, the heads I'm sure are stock valves and ports but can not confirm, it does have roller rockers and an an aluminum L-36 intake that I cleaned up the ports a bit, Lars rebuilt quadrajet (750cfm model), K&N filter and extreme lid. Had a performance shop rebuild and recurve my distributor (deffinitly helped). 2 1/8" sidepipe headers along with hookers new high flow mufflers. It runs very well for the little work that has been done, oh yea completely desmogged as well. If I had to make an educated guess at numbers I'd say 330hp at 4800 rpm and 450 ft/lbs at 3000 rpm (net numbers), it's an extremely torquey animal with traction hard to come by, especially since the car went on a pretty good diet. I think with some headwork and a little better cam it should be able to do the 400hp/500torque and still be very enjoyable and mild on the street.

Most of the specs are in my signature. Mine is mostly for street but I also enjoy the drag strip and ocasional auto cross. I did a series of dyno runs last February after freshening the engine with new rings and bearings. The picture below shows the engine on the dyno for one of the test configurations. We tested three exhaust configurations: 1) under car open headers, 2)Open Hooker Header side pipes, and 3) Hooker header side pipes with home made low restriction muffler incerts.

The results for three exhaust configurations are shown below. Green is with under car open headers. Red is with open Hooker side pipe headers, and blue is with Hooker side pipe headers with home made 2.5" glass pack mufflers.

The following link will play a movie of one of the dyno tests (5meg). The dyno was trying to pull the moter down below 3500 RPM. Turn up the volume and listen to the music.

406SBC - 6" H-beam rod, AFR 195 heads ported at 207cc.
10.7:1 CR, XR280R solid roller (242/248 @ .050 .571/.577 110LS)
Full 2.5" exhuast with 1-5/8" headers
Victor Jr, 750 BG Mighty Demon

Track results in sig, sea-level correct 11.0 @ 122mph.

I think I've got one of those magical sb's....mainly because it's a good street motor, e.g. gobs of torque........honestly, starting off in 3rd gear is not a problem (oops) and neither is running around on 7 cyls (oops again)......

Specs are simple..........9.3:1 CR, Dart Iron Eagle 180cc heads, 72cc Chambers, 2.02/1.6 valves, Comp Xe262 cam, Performer EPS dual plane, 600cfm holley, stock exhaust manifolds and side pipes.........

All this has given me the magical & estimated figure of 330HP @ 4500 RPM and 360 torque @ 3000 rpm......not easy to spin the tires but then there's no crazy, unexpected 180's either.....

Just a good torquey, magical street motor and I love it

406 small block (400 block bored .030 over)

Forged bottom with H-beam rods and lightweight pistons, Dart Pro 1 Heads with 230 cc intake runners and 64cc chambers, ported, 2.08/1.60 valves, comp cams solid roller with 264/270 degrees .050 duration (300/308 degrees advertised duration), .672 lift (.630 lift + 1.6 ratio Harland Sharp roller rockers), Stud Girdles, oil restrictor (restricts oil flow to the rocker arms and provides more oil to the bearings), 11.72:1 compression. Gross HP is estimated at about 600 HP. RWHP dyno sheets will follow in fall. Hoping for about 440 RWHP after drivetrain and accessory loss.. (20% for automatic tranny + 6% accessory loss)
